Paul “Semtex” Daley got back to winning ways Saturday night with a unanimous decision victory over Erick “The Tiger” Silva. The London born fighter fired up the home crowd with his performance at Bellator 223 in the SSE Arena.
Daley entered tonight’s fight looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats to both MVP and Jon Fitch. And bounce back he did. In classic Daley fashion he threw caution to the wind putting on a ferocious display. With some exceptional striking exchanges between both men, it was Daley who proved too much for Silva to handle.
Daley (41-17-2) began in his trademark style of hard striking and landed some crisp shots in round 1. Silva was not without success himself as he grounded Daley but could not secure a submission. Silva closed in on a rear-naked choke only for the bell to sound to end the round.
Round 2 saw Daley fly out of the blocks. He landed a beautiful combination on Silva that had the crowd out of their seats and the arena going crazy. Silva took the punishment Daley dished out well but could be visibly seen to tire. Silva did manage to catch Daley with a knee that momentarily caused Daley to compose himself. Within seconds Daley was at it again coming full tilt at Silva with a multitude of heavy shots that forced Silva down. On the ground Daley landed some massive strikes but Silva’s chin managed to hold up.
Round 3 began at a slower pace which was understandable after the mayhem in rounds 1 and 2. Daley became more precise with his shots while being wary of Silva’s takedown attempts. Silva caught Daley with a cracking left as he tried to get back into the fight. With under a minute left Silva succeed with a takedown but it came too close to the end to materialise into anything definitive.
The fight ended up in the judges hands but their job was quite an easy one to call. They eventually scored the bout in Daley’s favour with “Semtex” winning 29-27, 29-27, and 29-27.
